I encounter upgrade failure when trying to ugrade my Linksys WAP54G ver3.1 to latest BrainSlayer firmware. It end up bricking my WAP54G. Anyway i manged to revived it back and i would like to share it with you guys.
Bricked WAP54G sign and symptoms:
- Red Power LED : ON
- Orange Link LED : ON (If we plug the network cable)
- Green Act LED : OFF
Step by Step Revival Guide:
- Hard reset the router (30-30-30 second reset)
- Reboot the router by simply power it ON then OFF then ON again
- Change your computer IP to same subnet as your WAP54G subnet before it failed in upgrade (exp: 192.168.1.2) , Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway IP leave it blank, DNS IP leave it blank
- Open command windows by typing cmd in run menu
- Ping your router ip with this command: ping -t -l 1 192.168.1.1
- You will receive ping reply.
- Now copy previous working dd-wrt firmware to c:\ folder, rename it as 1.bin
- Open new command windows. Type cd\ press enter. Type tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT C:/1.bin but do not press enter. Wait for my command...
- Now unplug power cable of WAP54G. The ping command widows will show time out response. Leave until you get at least 3 timeout response. Then plug the power cable back in.
- As soon as the ping command windows receive ping reply. Press ENTER in tftp command windows
- Wait until it finish flashing. After it finish you will get timeout response in ping command windows. Leave it until you get a ping reply back.
- Now open your web browser and type 192.168.1.1
- You just successfully revive your bricked WAP54G router
